Spring Heeled Jack @ Skalapalooza 2012 at Gramercy Theatre, NYC – 10.21.12
October 22, 2012 | Concert Photography
Spring Heeled Jack have reunited (some members) for Skalapalooza 2012 and put on a great set! Originally they were suppose to play acoustically but went the sans Horns route which is cool too. I don’t remember the last time seeing SHJ but it has to be at least 13 years.
I’ll have sets of Across The Aisle and Sammy Kay either after Edna’s and Pilfers’ sets or tomorrow. Need to spread out the posts a little bit. I’ll have a full review over at ReadJunk.com tonight too. I’ve only been to Gramercy Theatre twice and I know it’s a great venue to shoot in. The lighting setup is nice, well when they have the front lighting on. I was happy to see the photo pit up front for the show so, I didn’t have to stand up front the entire night. I would have if I had to, but I prefer a pit.
For the most part, this set was shot around iso 2500 and iso 3200. I thought I got a lot of great shots of Ronnie and Mike. Nick Bacon of Pilfers was playing keys for them but couldn’t really get too many shots of him since he was in a spot on stage where there wasn’t a lot of lighting. After the 3 songs, I went back to my seat in the stadium seating and used my 70-200mm f2.8 lens and my other lens (Nikon 24-70mm f2.8) I used throughout night. I kept trying to get shots of the nice light beams, which I think I succeeded.
