Voodoo Glow Skulls @ Knitting Factory, Brooklyn, NY – 3.24.17
March 27, 2017 | Concert Photography
Voodoo Glow Skulls played at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on March 24th 2017 and it was the first time seeing them in 8 year! You can read my full review over at ReadJunk.com.
I knew their set was going to be problematic just because of how fast they play, there was no photo pit, and how packed the club got. I managed to hold onto my spot, although got bumped out of it for a few songs here and there. For the most part I stayed put and tried my best to get the shots. Sometimes I had to shoot with one hand and hold onto the stage. I had to duck a few times because people were crowd surfing, spraying beer around, etc.
The lighting was a little chaotic for the first song but it got better after that. I shot mostly with the 24-70mm f2.8 because it was so tight it was a pain in the ass to change lenses out. I did do that once or twice with the 14-24mm though. Got some decent photos but think would have gotten some better shots if I had a little more space to operate. But alas, punk rock and ska shows – you never know what conditions you’re going to have to shoot under.
