Koo Koo Kanga Roo @ Irving Plaza, NYC – 5.7.14
May 9, 2014 | Concert Photography
Koo Koo Kanga Roo opened up for The Aquabats on May 7th and danced and aerobicized their way around Irving Plaza to warm up the crowd. They were a lot of fun and also a lot of fun to photograph as well. I have a full review over on ReadJunk.com if you want to read that.
I was the only photographer for Koo Koo Kanga Roo’s set so that was nice, more freedom to move around and shoot. I shot the band last November with Frank Turner and they were a blast to photograph. Believe it or not, the lighting was great for their set and bright. I thought I got some great shots in the photo pit, and then later on with my telephoto lens.
I had VIP access so it was nice to shoot from the balcony for a change. I knew the guys like to work the crowd, in the crowd, so I knew to go up there after awhile. I proved to be the right decision but I did miss the part where they bring out the big colorful circle flag/banner thingy for the crowd to hold up. Still, I got some great shots from up there! Definitely give these guys a chance if you plan on seeing them live. Their songs are silly and you’ll be singing along by the end of their set.
