Teenage Bottlerocket @ Santos Party House, NYC – 3.2.13
March 3, 2013 | Concert Photography
Teenage Bottlerocket played in front of the Queers at Santos Party House on March 2nd. They alternated with The Queers on who would headline but NYC’s show was The Queers’ to finish. Didn’t really matter who went on when, because all the bands were great! Teenage Bottlerocket brought their A game and it’s always a fun time photographing their set.

Like the rest of the show, I shot this from the lounge area in the back with the 70-200mm f2.8. My ISO was HIGH for this show and was really testing out the D800’s low lighting capabilities. ISO was around 4000-6400 for this set, and I made note to try everything at least 1/125 above because I knew they would be moving around fast. Even shooting at that, a lot of shots still came out blurred. For punk shows, you really need to shoot with a flash or the club needs great lighting. I didn’t want to use my flash and annoy the crowd, so I tried to make do without. At times, I was experimenting with shooting DX mode just because it gave me some extra zoom. That seemed to work out okay and I’ll have to try that more.
Ray was a fun subject and jumped around, gave great poses and used his guitar like a gun to the crowd. I tried to get the other members as much as possible but it was tough with where i was. The lighting seemed better for Masked Intruder believe it or not but I still think I got some great Teenage Bottlerocket shots.
