Carbon Leaf @ Mexicali Live, Teaneck NJ – 6.21.12
June 22, 2012 | Concert Photography
Carbon Leaf played Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ again last night. Like usual, it was a fun show with your usual Jersey rowdy reception. For the most part it was a great crowd, except for one or two douches that wanted to talk during the show and disrupt things.
As you can tell, I can’t get enough of Carbon Leaf. Every time they are in the area, I have to go see them because they are one of my favorite bands. They always put on such a fantastic live show. They opened up the show with the perfect summer song “X-Ray.” Other songs I haven’t seen then do in awhile were “Seed,” “Paloma,” and “Blue Ridge Laughing.” Based on that they have been recording new music and what they said last night, we should have a new album from them soon. Can’t wait! As much as I love their other albums, I’m listening to those into the ground (haha) so it will be nice listening to more music.
One funny part of the evening was when Barry called me out. He was talking about the usb drive / beer openers that have the performance of the show on them and that we should scream our names to get on the recording. Me being the wise-ass that I am, and knowing I wouldn’t get my name on there anyway. I just pretending to scream “gdgsdgsdgygsfdwtg” and Barry caught me doing that. That gave everyone a nice laugh including myself.
Photography-wise, I took photos sporadically throughout the set with my Nikon D300 and 24-70mm f2.8. I used the 70-200mm f2.8 a few times to get some closeups or get band members across the stage from me. I didn’t really move out of my spot too much because I just didn’t want to disturb other people, plus I just had an awesome spot up front. I did go in the back at one point when they were doing the 1 mic/unplugged thing because it’s nice to get the group doing that. Check out my favorite photos below:
