Soulful reggae legend Beres Hammond played at Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday night to a packed house. He’s not only an excellent performer, he’s also a blast to photograph as well!

Just like the rest of the show, I shot Beres entire set or well most of it. I took off after Shaggy made an appearance, which I was glad I was there for that. The host of the concert said there was a special guest so I knew to stick around. Beres Hammond wasn’t as jumpy as Luciano but he did do a few kicks in the air which I was happy to get because it was my favorite of the night. I got 1 or 2 photos of actor Leon Robinson (Cool Runnings, Oz, etc.) who was on the side stage and then right next to me taking pictures with his phone. I didn’t know he was a singer as well and has guest sang with Beres and Marcia Griffiths. But that was still cool to see him there.
The entire concert was beautifully lit and very colorful back lighting. If there was no white lighting it would have been a rough shoot I’m sure. Beres Hammond is one performer you need to photograph once in your lifetime, I just hope that wasn’t the last time for me and I get to see him perform again. Outstanding!
