Inspecter 7 @ Star of the Palm Beach, NYC – 10.26.12

Inspecter 7 were next up for the Mephiskapheles show aboard the Star of the Palm Beach in NYC. I haven’t seen Inspecter 7 in ages so it was nice to see them live again. On the other hand, this crowd really made me work to get these shots haha.

Like I said in that review, this set was hellish to shoot. Not only are you moving around on a boat that isn’t stable, you have to contend with pushing and shoving up front. I almost fell into the band several times, got beer spilled on me, I’m sure my camera has a few rough spots on it now. But if you look at ANY Inspecter 7 photos, you’ll always see the crowd right up there so I knew what I was getting into. I have shot them before at Sea Seas in Moosic, PA and Wetlands in NYC back in the 90s but currently don’t have those photos up here. Need to re-scan them. I’ll save that project for the winter.

Sometimes those crazy shots of the band plus the crowd come out even better than just the band playing. It captures the insanity that is an Inspecter 7 show. I got a few decent shots before I said fuck it, and had enough of being shoved into Travis and the rest of the band.

The lighting on the cruise ship was very dim so you definitely need a speed light for these types of shows. I shot this show using the 24-70mm f2.8 lens but I could have used a wider lens than that. 14-24mm f2.8 would have been ideal for this show.

Sadly, I didn’t get a photos of Mephiskapheles. After I left I7’s set to sit in the back, it was too tough to get right in front again. I tried but then some tall dickhead took my spot when I moved out of the way to let someone off the stage area. Oh well, so I gave up and enjoyed Mephiskapheles’ set from the back haha.
