Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel @ The Room at Cedar Grove, Lewes, DE – 10.19.23

Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel returned to The Room at Cedar Grove: Paul Kares in Lewes, Delaware on October 19th and played a sold out show.

I was invited out to take some pictures of Dicky Betts’ son, Duane Betts and his talented band Palmetto Motel at The Room at Cedar Grove. I’ve been there once before, this summer, for a Q&A event with George Porter Jr and Melody Trucks but haven’t been to a concert yet. Since the last time I’ve been there, they expanded some of the seats to the back to fit more than 50 people now. I sat at the bar area and got treated to some delicious food like tomato basil soup, shrimp pasta and coffee flavored panna cotta. There was a charcuterie board as well. The wine was flowing for others and bottles were popping (as I heard all night haha).

Duane’s music was excellent and the sold out crowd loved every minute of it. He played songs from his new album Wild & Precious Life and covered some Allman Brothers stuff as well. I tried my best to blend in like a ninja without disrupting people when taking pictures. I went up front a few times to take pictures from the side, but mostly stuck to the back with my telephoto lens. Towards the end, I kneeled down in the aisle way to get some other shots from there.

It’s a cool spot to see a show and have an awesome dinner. Tickets can be pricey for some shows but it does INCLUDE a 4-course meal with wine. Additional drinks and gratuity aren’t included. Instead of paying a billion dollars to get nosebleed seats at an arena concert with all these ticket fees, and have to drive over 2 hours, you get a meal AND see great music. It would be a perfect spot for bands/artists like Carbon Leaf, The Alternate Routes, Willie Nile, Alan Doyle, Stephen Kellogg, The White Buffalo, Chris Trapper and other bands/artists I’m a fan of.

Duane Betts impressed me and I’m a fan now!
