The Riptide Movement @ Northern Soul, Hoboken, NJ – 9.21.14
September 23, 2014 | Concert Photography
Ireland’s The Riptide Movement played a small pub in Hoboken on Sunday night and I was glad I was there to see it! The always awesome Willie Nile made a few appearances as well!
Like usual, I did a full concert review over at ReadJunk.com, but I’ll talk about photography stuff here.
I never been to Northern Soul in Hoboken before but figured it would be small. It wasn’t that small but wasn’t a whole lot of room to move around to take pictures. I didn’t know if I was going to need my flash but glad I used it. I tried shooting some shots with 85mm f1.8 lens but it was just too dark inside the place.
I was hesitant to use the flash but saw people filming and using their cell phones with flash as well so figured might as well use it. I tried not to pop off so many shots that it was blinding people every 2 seconds. A picture or two here and there and then back to me enjoying the music. I just loved hearing songs from the new album Getting Through, which I only just bought a week ago because of Willie Nile’s praise of the band. Definitely deserves its praises!
These guys were awesome to see live and hope they return to play a proper music venue. Fun energetic band to see in concert and photograph. Maybe they will play with Willie Nile again down the road here?
Here’s one video I shot of “You and I”
