Backyard Superheroes @ Starland Ballroom, Sayreville, NJ – 11.9.13

Backyard Superheroes were the first band I saw at Skanksgiving 2013 Part 1 at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. If you want to read a little bit more about the show and the other bands, head over to ReadJunk.com.

As soon as I arrived at the venue, Backyard Superheroes were getting on stage so I just went right straight to the pit to take pictures. It’s been a few years since last being at Starland Ballroom but remember the lighting can be good at times, and then atrocious other times. I can’t stand red/purple lighting here and I almost always have to make the photos black & white.

I used the 24-70mm lens for the entire show except one time outside of the pit, which I then I got yelled at by one of the bouncers by the bathrooms. I can slightly understand the 3 song rule in the photo pit area, but outside credentialed photographers should be allowed to take pictures in the club after that. What’s the damn difference if someone takes a picture or video with their phone and me taking quality photos with my camera? I simply just don’t understand this rule that certain venues have. I like Starland Ballroom but this rule is stupid. For the most part, the bouncers were really nice. Maybe it was just the one bouncer who had to sit next to a shit-smelling bathroom the entire night that was the dick.
