The Alternate Routes @ Mexicali Live, Teaneck NJ – 4-21-11
April 23, 2011 | Concert Photography
Adam Ezra Group from Massachusetts opened up the Carbon Leaf show at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ, and The Alternate Routes were up next. The band for this show just consisted of Tim and Eric, since it’s mainly just those guys in the band now. While it would have been nice to see a full band perform, seeing The Alternate Routes as a duo was just as good!
The band played some of the usual songs you might hear at an Alt Routes show. Songs like “On and On We Whisper,” “The Future’s Nothing New,” and “Asked You Twice.” They also played “Carry Me Home” off their new album Lately. I loved hearing that one, almost wished I heard more from the new album!
Since there was only two of the guys in the band, It was easy getting shots of both of them. I didn’t have to break up the time for all these different members. I tried to move around the club at times to get different perspectives. For this show, I mainly wanted to see how great my lens, 24-70mm f2.8 lens was and it certainly didn’t disappoint. In fact, I love it! It makes my shots ten times better. I thought shooting at Mexicali Live might be a sucky time, but the lighting was actually pretty decent. I don’t know if it was because of the Carbon Leaf’s lighting at all. Having the lighting be decent and the luxury of walking around was nice. Last few shows I’ve been at they were sold out and made it difficult to shoot.

I highly recommend buying the new album “Lately,” which you can do at Amazon.com. Also, visit their website at http://www.thealternateroutes.com.
