Suburban Legends @ Roseland Ballroom, NYC – 6.26.08
June 28, 2008 | Concert Photography, Photography
Suburban Legends were the opening band on the Shout It Loud tour with Less Than Jake, Goldfinger, and Westbound Train. I never saw Suburban Legends before and I was impressed with their stage show and their fun ska rock music.
The band was interesting because they started off break dancin’ and doing synchronized dance moves. I was kind of laughing at it but it was still entertaining. You can’t really take that kind of thing serious, at least I hope the band doesn’t take it too seriously. I never really listened to their music before but it’s a combination of ska, funk and believe it or not, disco. I’m definitely going to check out their music.
The lighting was pretty straight forward, and bright at times. It took me a few photos to get my barrings, and get my settings down. The singer and some of the band members were eager to pose for my camera, which always makes for some nice photos. For this set, I was switching between the 50mm f1.4 lens, 70-200mm f2.8 lens for closeups, and the 18-70mm f3.5 lens for wide angle shots. I was using the later the most for this set because I was trying to get some dramatic angles. It seemed to work.
