The Morning Benders @ Terminal 5, NYC – 6.10.08

June 11, 2008 | Concert Photography, Photography

The Morning Benders were the opening band for The Kooks at Terminal 5 last night in New York City. They are an indie/pop rock from Berkley, California and really warmed up the young crowd. I wasn’t familiar with the band beforehand but was impressed with their music. I’ll probably check out Morning Benders now that I saw them live. They played for at least a half hour and I shot the first third songs.

The security seemed to be extra tight that night because just about every security guard were checking to see if I had a photo pass. I luckily did and glad I asked to shoot this show because I felt like I got some great photos. The last few concerts I have been unhappy with most of my photos and the lighting. This time, I thought the lighting was great and very dramatic. There was bright white lights, and colorful lighting like blues, greens and reds. Last time at Terminal 5, I shot DeVotchKa and the lighting was pretty good. I felt it was better (for photographers) this time around. I shot the entire set using my 70-200mm f2.8 lens and didn’t even bother to take out my other lens. I wish I had money to get the 24-70mm lens because I could really use a mid-range zoom but that’s gonna have to wait. But since the lighting was bright, I was shooting around ISO 1600 and around 1/125-1/160 at f2.8.
