The Selecter @ Gramercy Theatre, NYC – 10.6.16

October 10, 2016 | Concert Photography

The Selecter played NYC on October 6th at Gramercy Theatre to a packed crowd. It’s good to see people still care about ska music! I already did a full review of the show at ReadJunk.com, so check that out if you want to know more about the show, that isn’t just photographer jargon haha.

I’ve never seen or shot The Selecter before but I wish I had. Last time they were here I was in Italy. The duo of Pauline Black and Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson were a blast to shoot. So much energy and so many great poses. They were a photographer’s dream! As you can tell since I have a lot of photos in this set.

I’m glad the show was at Gramercy Theatre because the lighting is usually great there. Some shows it can be dark but not this one. I don’t know how my photos would have turned out if the lighting was shitty. For this set, I used the 24-70mm and 14-24 lenses. I particularly loved the shots of 14-24mm since I got some great results. I used my telephoto 70-200mm f2.8 lens after the 3 songs were up in the photo pit. For a song or two, I sat up in the seats just to get a different perspective.

I can’ wait to see the Selecter again and get some more photos of them!
