Willie Nile @ City Winery Hudson Square, NYC
August 23, 2015 | Concert Photography
My last concert for the foreseeable future since I’m going to be a Dad in couple of weeks(?) was a free Willie Nile show at City Winery’s Hudson Square. Willie & his band are always a fun time and a band everyone should see once in their lifetime.
I didn’t get a photo pass for this one because I wasn’t sure I was going to need it. I didn’t even use my camera for the first few songs because I was hanging with a friend and just enjoying the set. Then later on I ventured through the crowd and got a spot by the front to get some shots of Willie and the band. I was using my telephoto lens for the most part, but was switching lenses around here and there to get different perspectives.
Since I was in the same spot, I just tried to pick my spots with shooting. Wait for the band to venture up front, or wait for a clear shot. Matt Hogan always wails on the guitar, Willie has his fun poses and mannerisms, Johnny always jumps at certain parts of the song. I managed to get all that but wish I had better angle for Johnny jumping.
Willie’s show was great, despite the amp going in and out at times. He played songs from the albums American Ride, The Innocent Ones, and House of a Thousand Guitars for the most part. Looking back, I probably should have asked for a pass since there was a gated area for photographers. But whatever, still had a great time seeing Willie and got a few photographs to remember it by….
…..Now onto Fatherhood! *breathe breathe*
