Willie Nile @ Highline Ballroom, NYC – 12.26.14

Whenever I shoot a Willie Nile show, it’s always a blast! It was a fitting show to end the year for me, and the band gave me some great shots thanks to Highline Ballroom’s lighting and their rock poses.

I wasn’t able to get up front to get any shots since there was loads of people standing in the tiny aisle ways. In front of sitting tables might I add so I didn’t want to add to the congestion so I just shot from afar. I used my 70-200mm f2.8 from my table in the back and from the side of the venue at times. It’s amazing I was able to get so many great shots from my seat but I was lucky enough not to have anyone sitting in my way too badly.

The lighting is always great at Highline Ballroom, plus they have some big screens in the back that adds something different from other venues in NYC. I got some excellent shots of guitarist Matt Hogan wailing on the guitar. I could have had a whole gallery just of him and his rock poses & faces. I’m bummed I didn’t get any Johnny Pisano jump shots this time but I think he only jumped once the set and it wasn’t anything high or anything. And of course the man himself, Willie Nile, is always a treat to see and photograph. His mannerisms and stage presence is a photographer’s dream.

I came home and the video card went on my 17 inch Macbook Pro, so I had to get another one. Not exactly the best time to be getting a new computer so if anyone is feeling generous and wants some cool shots from this show, let me know and I’ll give you a quote!
