Chris Trapper of the Push Stars played Stage 3 at Rockwood Music Hall last night in the Lower East Side. It’s a newer part of Rockwood, downstairs from the other level and it’s a small intimate venue. Which means its perfect to see Chris Trapper perform!
It was a great night because my wife and I had our favorite Mexican food across the street at Taqueria. There’s one in Jersey City as well so we were happy it’s right by the club. Then we walked around the rain a little bit, just checking out the restaurants in the neighborhood. One thing I noticed was the abundances of hipster barber shops in the area. I counted 10 in a 3 block radius! Anyway, then we walked to the venue around 6:30 and ended up seeing Chris Trapper hanging around so thankfully I had my audio recorders with me and I filmed 3 songs with him.
Chris was excellent and played songs off his awesome new album Technicolor like “Werewolf In Times Square,” “Accident,” and “Bye Bye Beautiful.” He also played a handful of Push Stars tunes like “Any Little Town,” “Everything Shines,” “A Little Drunk is Better Than Dead,” and finished the show with “Keg On My Coffin.” I particularly loved hearing “Away We Go” and then Chris “rock out” on the ukelele to “Stairway to Heaven” and “Smoke on the Water.” Hearing the songs is great but listening to Chris tell the stories behind the songs is just as good. It’s part stand-up act, part storytelling. I’ve seen Chris perform twice for the Push Stars so far and this was my first solo performance. It definitely won’t be the last!
These photos aren’t anything that special since I was just taking pictures from my seat in the front. The venue at times was so quiet that you could hear a mouse fart. Plus there’s really not a whole lot you can take pictures of with just one musician on stage. So I just picked my spots and took pictures here and there. Enjoy!
