Black 47 @ Exchange Place, Jersey City, NJ – 9.28.13

Believe it or not, I never saw Black 47 before. They ended up headlining a free Irish Festival at Exchange Place in Jersey City so I decided to check it out and take some pictures.

The band has been around for over 25 years and plan on disbanding sometime in 2014. They were fun to see live and Larry Kirwan is a good showman when it comes to performing. I like musicians like that because it makes for some fun photographs. I started taking pictures up front and stayed to the side a little bit. Larry noticed me and pointed to me, which I managed to capture. I always like those type of photos. I eventually moved in the back to get some of Manhattan and the memorial in the background.

For this set and the Prodigals set, I used both the 24-70mm f2.8 lens and the 70-200mm f2.8 lens. I started out with the wide angle first since I was up close. I liked the photos towards the end of the set because the sun was down and things got a bit darker. I just don’t like concert photography in the daytime pretty much. Makes the photo bland to me. In this set, I have both day and night shots, and thankfully they put on the the little stage lighting for Black 47. If you like Irish rock music, better go see Black 47 before they go on permanent hiatus.
