Luciano @ Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC – 8.2.13
August 4, 2013 | Concert Photography
I’ve been a fan of reggae star Luciano for years but never had the chance to see him perform, much less photograph him. Thankfully I got the chance to on Friday night at Hammerstein Ballroom. He’s definitely a fun performer to photograph!

Luciano started off with a slow song and then just like that, he was moving around stage so fast it was hard to keep track of him. He was jumping all over the place, kicking, and just making it really fun to photograph him. I love taking pictures at reggae shows because the lighting is usually excellent and this was definitely the case this time around. Colorful back lighting and front lighting = perfect conditions.
Another perfect thing was that I had the entire show to shoot in the photo pit. Initially it was the usual 3 songs but security didn’t kick us out so I just stayed there the entire night. That was great because then you can just sit back and relax, and pick your shots instead of just snapping away. The only thing that’s difficult is then trying to cipher through 300 photos per set but that’s a good thing to worry about.
If you get the chance to photograph, definitely do it! I didn’t think I’d get so many jump shots at a reggae show! I did miss Luciano a few times doing flips/cart wheels on stage. I was annoyed with myself for missing it but glad I got some jump shots though!
