Trapper Schoepp @ City Winery, NYC – 6.26.13
June 29, 2013 | Concert Photography
Just recently, I got into Trapper Schoepp & The Shades who had their 2011 album Run, Engine, Run re-released on Side One Dummy. Trapper is a brilliant singer/songwriter who has been getting increased attention thanks to opening for the Wallflowers. The Shades took the night off so it was just Trapper but that’s okay with me!
Before the concert started, I got out of work early and met up with Trapper a few hours before the show started. We filmed 2 acoustic songs in the nearby park/square near the venue. That video will be on BeforeTheConcert.com hopefully soon.
Then after that, I had to wait about hour and half before the show started so I killed time by slowly eating a $16 dollar burger & fries. It was pricey but very, very good! Trapper played for a half hour and it was excellent! He played 1 or 2 new ones, plus “Tracks” which has been in my head since I heard it earlier in the year. He also played “Run, Engine, Run” but it was a few days ago so not sure on the exact setlist that was played.
For this show, I used the 70-200mm f2.8 lens for the most part. I walked around the venue in the back to get some different angles. I sometimes used the DX mode just to get closer shots. With the D800, you have so much resolution you can risk a little to be trimmed off to get a bit of zoom out of the shots. At least I think so. Next time, I’d love to see a full band show but that will have to wait for now!
