It was my first time seeing Peter Bradley Adams but I have a feeling this won’t be the last time! Peter and his band put on an excellent set at Rockwood Music Hall last night in New York City!
You can read my full review of the show over at ReadJunk.com.
When I arrived at the venue, I was having a hard time of deciding whether or not to just shoot upstairs in the balcony or stay downstairs. It was too hot upstairs so I decided to remain on the main floor, which was probably the better decision photography-wise. I stood in the same spot for the entire show since it was packed inside. The lighting was better for Peter’s set than Molly Parden’s set, though it varied from song to song. Thankfully I had the whole set to photograph so that was nice. For most shows, I usually just snap away but for this one, I felt like I had to pick my spots because the sound of the camera makes so much noise. Peter’s music is soft and quiet at times, so I didn’t want to annoy the fans and Peter himself.
Like the other set, I mainly used the 70-200mm f2.8 lens to get in close and also used the 24-70 f2.8 for other shots. ISO 6400 for the Nikon D800 is about the max before things start to get too grainy for me, but that’s what I used. I think I got some good shots of the band, although it was tough getting their drummer. I always have problems photographing drummers, because they are always stuck back there. It was nice photographing a musician that was playing a grand piano, which PBA did for 1 or 2 songs. It was a nice change for me.
Hopefully I’ll have more chances of shooting a Peter Bradley Adams show and also hopefully can setup a session for BeforeTheConcert.com as well.
