Xmas Time in New York City: Part 2
December 22, 2011 | Videos
I had such a good time filming Christmas stuff in New York City the first time (read about it here), I wanted to go back again and shoot at night. Last weekend, my wife Kristen and I ventured over to Soho, Washington Square Park, Madison Square Park, 34th Street, Grand Central, 56th St and then obviously to see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.
I had to get some fingerless gloves on Broadway down in Soho, which was chaotic as I imagined it would be. Thankfully we were there for too long and headed up to Washington Square Park where we encountered a bunch of drunken Santas. One of them had a megaphone and jokingly said that I couldn’t film him because he didn’t sign a release for it. After that, we grabbed some awesome food at the popular Shake Shack. All I have to say is Peanut Butter Shake! After eating and seeing a mouse eating fries between people’s feet, we headed up to 34th street. It was busy but honestly, not as busy as I thought it would be. Rockefeller Center craziness was next, and it was actually tolerable. Maybe it was because the streets were closed and people could walk in the streets. An actual smart thing that the NYPD decided to do for a change.
We headed over onto to 6th Ave after the tree and headed up to 56th street to some gingerbread houses at Le Parker Meridian. On the way, I filmed a Santa Claus singing with some girls and he looked very much like Andy Richter. It probably wasn’t him but when you see the video, you’ll see a Santa that looks like him. The gingerbread houses were pretty cool. One of them was a Occupy North Pole which made me laugh. The final spot I wanted to go was Grand Central, not only to go home but to see if there was some light show thing. I guess I just missed it. Oh Well. It was a long day and my legs were killing me, but it was worth filming around the city again.
Watch my video below, featuring the music of Mighty Mighty Bosstones‘ “This Time of Year.” They gave me permission to use it which is nice of them! Buy the song on the Medium Rare album here.
