Deal’s Gone Bad from Chicago play soulful ska & reggae. They will make you shake your ass, and get your groove on! I never saw them before but liked what I heard! I definitely want to check out their albums now. They were also fun to shoot as well.
I already wrote an exhausting live review of the show over at ReadJunk.com so please check that out here.
The lighting was similar to the other bands’ sets. Red-ish lighting, and then blue-ish with a little bit of white. I get sick of looking at all red photos, so I change it up a bit in “post.” Thank you RAW! Sometimes with bands like this, they just look cooler in black & white. Guys with tattoos in bands always look cooler in black & white to me. For the most part, I was trying to take pictures of all the band members, but at the same time focusing on frontman Todd Hembrook as well. His awesome mustache was a sight to see, plus the way he sang made him an easy subject to shoot. I wanted to get a picture or two of the keyboardist because he was using 2 chairs for his stand. I’m sure there was a story behind that, but not sure if they mentioned that on stage. For the majority of the set, I used the 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 lens, and used the 70-200mm f2.8 lens outside of the pit for some closeups.
Here are some favorites from their set:
