Young Dubliners @ Blender Theater at Gramercy, NYC – 9.10.09

It’s been a year since last seeing one of my favorite Celtic rock bands, The Young Dubliners from California. They released a new album Saints and Sinners back in February, and it’s still being constantly played on my iPod like I just heard it for the first time. But now it was time to see the band perform those songs live at Blender Theater in New York City.

Like Seven Nations set, the lighting was wonderful but this time it was a little harder to photograph. The smoke adds ambiance to the stage, but harder to photograph the band sometimes. Thankfully the smoke went away after the first song. More people were standing now, so I was trying my best to stay out of everyone’s way.

The 3 lenses (The 50mm f1.4, 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 and 70-200mm f2.8) that I used for Seven Nations set were also used for the Young Dubs set. This time around, I wanted to focus on all the other members besides Keith. I have a habit of focusing just on the singers a lot of the time and I miss out on some band members. I even got a few shots of Dave, the drummer. I never get shots of drummers, just because I always forget they are back there or it’s hard getting a straight shot of them. Usually when I try to take picture of drummers, I get one of the band members asses in the way or something.

Out of these photos, I like the ones of Chas the fiddle player the most. Maybe he was just in the right spots with the lighting or giving me the best poses. Bob the guitar player gave some awesome rock poses as well. Everytime I had my camera pointed at Brendan the bass player, he was giving me some guitar faces. That always helps get some fun photos.
