Mighty Mighty Bosstones @ Starland Summer Campout, Sayreville NJ - 7.13.08

The last time I saw The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, it was about 8 years ago? Has it been that long?! I honestly don’t remember the last time I saw them but it definitely felt like they never left. The band came out in their signature ugly plaid suits, and I was even sporting an ugly plaid shirt as well. I was pumped to see the band again after all these years. This was the first time shooting the band, and thankfully got my photo pass 10 minutes before the band went on.

Like usual, there was problems with my passes. I got VIP passes but no photo pass. So I couldn’t get the pass in time to take pictures of Civet. Oh well, I’m sure they will be on the Warped Tour next year. I sweated it out, wondering if I was going to get the photo pass in time for the Bosstones and their tour manager came through in the end. I dashed to the photo pit and realized how high the stage was. I could barely get the other members in some shots. But I was just happy I got the photo pass. I was a cranky shit before then. I just get so discouraged when stuff like this happens; it really makes me not want to come to shows anymore. I bet this wouldn’t happen to me if I worked for Rolling Stone but I shoot for a dinky website so I always get dicked around. Concert photography can be very aggravating.

anyway, the Bosstones opened with “Our Only Weapon,” and then went into “Rascal King” and “Where’d You Go.” during those songs, I was shooting away and trying to get as many photos as I can. I didn’t get to shoot Civet so I had to adjust my ISO settings, and f stops on the fly. Usually I like shooting opening bands to get some practice and get the camera settings to be just right. I got a lot of photos of Dicky and Ben, but the rest of the group was hard to get photos of (Especially the horn section). I had to break out the 70-200mm f2.8 lens for most of this set because of the extremely high stage. I also used my wide angle lens which probably got the coolest results of the night. Here’s some of the best shots of the Bosstones:
