Fancy Trash @ Terminal 5, NYC – 5.20.08

May 22, 2008 | Concert Photography, Photography

Fancy Trash hail from Massachusetts and were the opening band for DeVotchKa at Terminal 5 in New York City. I never heard of the band before but they played an Americana acoustic folk rock; think Neil Young meets Loudon Wainwright III. The music wasn’t bad but not sure it’s something I’d listen to a lot. I didn’t really care for the singer’s vocals at times. I did like a few songs though. There were only 2 people in the band so there was only so many photos you could have taken of the group.

During the Fancy Trash set, I was in the photo pit taking pictures, doing my thing. I was switching out my lenses to get different angles. I went to grab my 18-70mm kit lens to get some wide angle shots. I couldn’t find it in my bag! I was walking up and down the photo pit, trying to find it. I swore I had it with me, and couldn’t remember what I did with it. I couldn’t it in the bag a second time; I had both lens hoods for my lenses in the bag but no wide angle lens. I asked Ryan Muir, one of the other photographers there if he saw it or had a flashlight. I checked the pit again, and couldn’t find it. I decided to finish shooting the 3 songs and walked out of the pit, confused on what the hell happened to my lens. I went back up to the balcony and sat down with my bag to see if it really was there. I started to take everything out, and scooped my hand under the dividers in the bag, and VIOLA! The lens was there! I was relieved that I didn’t have to spend money on a wide angle lens since I just got a new camera. But thankfully I found the lens!

The lighting for this set was mainly red, and warm colors; I wish the lighting was switched up a little bit. For lenses, I used the 70-200mm f2.8 lens almost the whole time but switched between the 50mm f1.4 a few times. Obviously, I didn’t use my 18-70mm lens during this set (haha).
