I just bought the Nikon D300!!

Well, I finally did it! I got the Nikon D300 from B&H Photo!! Since it was announced back in the fall, I knew this was going to be the next camera I would own. Of course I would love to own the Nikon D3, but I can’t see myself paying that much for a camera…Unless it was my main profession. I started to begin saving money for the D300 this spring and sold a lot of stuff on ebay. Then I got the Tax rebate which went towards the camera, ya know, priorties. I’ve been trying to find side work for web design & photography but have been coming up short so far. Then the company I work for decided to reward me with $250 gift card to B&H for my 4 year anniversary. I was shocked and really happy, it was SUPER NICE of them to do that for me. I decided what the hell, and buy the camera now. I’m still going to pursue side work to help pay for the rest of the camera, and hopefully this will be paid off soon.

For about 4 years, I have been using the Nikon D70 and while it served its purpose; it was time to get a new camera. The camera was really low in megapixels and a basic point & shoot camera seemed better. Plus for the type of photography that I do, mainly concert photography; that camera was super grainy ISO 600 and above.

With the D300, I’ll be able to go to a higher ISO and the grain won’t be as noticeable. The camera’s megapixel is 12.5 and I can get a pretty good size print with that. Another important feature on the camera is the LCD screen. The screen on the Nikon D70 was so tiny that I couldn’t even tell if a picture was blurry or not until I got home. There’s a load of features on this camera so it’s definitely going to take me awhile to learn them. I guess I’ll have to read the manual and read the Flickr forums for awhile, until I get the hang of it. I’m really excited and looking forward to shooting my next show with this camera. It will either be one of the Mike Ness shows at The Fillmore @ Irving Plaza or DeVotchKa show at Terminal 5.

Hey Bryan, congrats on the new camera. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you can do with the new gear – that’s a huge upgrade from the D70!

I went from the D70 to the D2x, so believe me, I know!

Enjoy the sweet high ISO performance, too.
